Finding Proper Anchor Points during Shaft Work with Prevention through Design (PtD)

The Challenge

During shaft work, teams often face multiple challenges trying to find proper anchor points. In addition to being time-consuming, the process of evaluating for and finding proper anchor points increases the risks of fall exposures.  

Innovation through Practice – The 'Aha Moment'

On a recent project, to provide easily accessible engineered anchor points at every shaft location that would meet OSHA requirements, the team: 

• Worked with local vendors to create details specific to project application for metal decking and cast in place concrete without metal deck.
• Coordinated with the field and structural teams to determine location and quantities.
• Collaborated with the safety team to determine inspection and usage needs.
