Mid-Atlantic Division Awarded CPSC Contract
Southland Industries’ Mid-Atlantic division was awarded the HVAC, process piping, plumbing and retro-commissioning work for the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) renovation project in Rockville, Maryland. The $6M project includes 63,000 s.f. of lab and office space, and also includes a testing pool and spa area, a flammability lab, and a fireworks testing lab. The aggressive project schedule requires Southland to begin the project immediately, with a completion date scheduled for April 2011. The project was largely negotiated with Whiting Turner (WT) based on our long standing relationship and successes on recently completed projects such as a private lab facility in Maryland and the Surge IT data center at George Mason University. After the project was awarded, Whiting Turner stated that “the reason we selected Southland for this project was because they paid attention during the preconstruction, they seemed interested, they had a plan on how to complete the work, and they appear to have great continuity of personnel. They also appear to have the people, resources, coordination capabilities, and all most all their work will be performed in-house which is especially critical on this fast tracked project. We really look forward to getting started and expect a very successful project.”
