Mid-Atlantic Division Awarded BRAC 132 Project
Southland Industries’ Mid Atlantic Division(MAD) was recently awarded the BRAC 132 project at Ft. Belvoir for the Army Corp of Engineers. This project marks the first design build team competition that MAD has teamed with Suffolk Construction. Mike DiNapoli, Vice President/General Manager of Suffolk Mid-Atlantic stated that, “the Suffolk team is thrilled to be working with Southland on this significant project. The success of this project is fueled by teamwork, and we couldn’t think of a better partner.” Other team members include M.C. Dean, Inc., and Perkins + Will Architecture.
BRAC 132 is a multi-story command headquarters building, consisting of approximately 100,000 s.f. of administrative space, emergency operations center, appellate courtroom and adjoining spaces, secure and non secure conference rooms, video teleconference centers, data processing center, general officer/senior executive service office suites, storage, administrative support areas, building support spaces, a sensitive compartmented information facility (SCIF) and a multi-level parking structure.
Southland will be performing the design and construction of the fire protection, plumbing and HVAC systems for the project. The project is a one year fast track for design and construction, and is to be completed by September of 2011.
The facility will be designed and constructed in accordance with the Sustainable Design, Energy Policy Act 2005 (EPACT 05), Department of Defense Minimum Antiterrorism Standards for Buildings (ATFP), and will comply with Leadership in Energy Environmental Design (LEED) requirements to achieve LEED “Silver” Certification.
