Southland Industries, one of the nation's largest MEP building systems experts providing engineering, construction, service and energy service solutions, was recently awarded the California State University, San Bernardino student housing project. In addition to Southland, the design-assist project team consists of Solomon Cordwell Buenz, CW Driver, Interface Engineering, and KPFF.
Spanning 168,875 square feet, Southland will be providing design-assist services for plumbing, HVAC, and kitchen systems during the preconstruction phase, as well as installation services for the HVAC and plumbing portions. The four story, 416-bed housing complex will provide double occupancy rooms, shared and gender neutral bathroom facilities, an administrative suite, as well as a communal space with a multipurpose kitchen and recreation and laundry facilities. The project also includes sustainable features, including extensive use of natural light and ventilation using large, low emission glazed operable windows in each room and energy efficient LED lightning with day lighting controls and occupancy sensors.
With a goal of LEED gold certification, the project’s construction phase is set to begin in July 2016 and be completed in December 2017.
