Garden Grove, CA

Southland Industries, one of the nation's largest mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) building systems experts providing engineering, construction, service and energy service solutions, recently hosted its Annual Southern California Golf Tournament in Costa Mesa, California. Held at Mesa Verde Country Club, the proceeds from the tournament were donated to Jacob’s House, the American Heart Association, and the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) Children’s Foundation. The event attracted over 120 participants and 46 generous sponsors and partners, allowing each charity to receive $18,000.

Chris Smith, Business Manager of Southland’s Southern California Division noted that the event continues to be a success within the local community year after year. “We are proud to support three great charities with this year’s golf tournament. Through the contributions of our business partners and support of those within our organization we were able to raise just over $54,000, making for another successful year,” Smith remarked.

Having previously established a strong relationship with Southland, Jacob’s House is an organization that Shawn and Stephanie Nelson founded in memory of their son Jacob. Based in Temecula, California, Jacob’s House provides a home away from home for families with a loved one in a medical situation at the Temecula Valley Hospital. "On behalf of the Jacob's House Board of Directors, we are so honored to be a beneficiary and partner with Southland Industries.  Southland continues to be the largest contributor to Jacob's House, and we are so grateful for their support of our mission to help families in crisis," declared Shawn Nelson, Co-founder of Jacob’s House.

“I would like to thank you for all your hard work in putting on such a spectacular charity golf tournament! Thank you for including the American Heart Association as one of your charity beneficiaries and for inviting us to be a part of this wonderful event. We truly appreciate your dedication in furthering the mission of the American Heart Association,” said Nickie Behdin, Senior Business Development Director at the non-profit organization, which practices appropriate cardiac care in an effort to reduce disability and deaths caused by cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Zach Moonitz, Director of Special Events at CHOC Children’s Foundation, also expressed appreciation for Southland’s donation, stating, “The funds we received from this amazing event will support CHOC's mission to provide world-class healthcare to the children in our community.  On behalf of CHOC Children's and the families we serve, I wish to express our deepest gratitude to Southland Industries and their associates for this most generous gift”. The CHOC Foundation generates community awareness and resources for CHOC Children’s and CHOC Children’s at Mission Hospital.  The Children’s Hospital of Orange County is dedicated to providing the highest quality, family-centered primary and specialty care to children.
