Southland Engineering, a division of Southland Industries, was recently awarded the renovation of a prominent hospital in the D.C. metro area. In addition to Southland’s design-build team, the project includes M.C. Dean, Pritchett Controls, and Metro Test and Balance.
Spanning across multiple buildings, the project consists of a 40-bed behavioral health unit, rehabilitation center, maternity clinic, and outpatient services. Southland’s work will provide upgrades to the existing facility’s mechanical systems to modernize the hospital for the growing neighborhood.
Southland’s scope of work includes a thorough assessment of the operation and quality of the facility’s 20 year old mechanical systems. Based on an assessment, Southland will create a design to replace or retrofit the systems in order to bring them up to code and industry standards. Through collaboration between Southland’s engineering and construction divisions, the facility will receive the maximum up-time on the equipment and hospital facilities.
The project’s design phase began in May 2015 and construction commenced in July 2015.
