The George Washington University recently awarded a performance-based design-build project at the Virginia Science and Technology Campus in Ashburn, Virginia to Southland Energy.
The university’s partnership with Southland Energy began with a detailed audit of the campus. Working with George Washington University’s facilities support team, Southland collaboratively developed the project’s scope of work during a series of workshops. Southland will support demand response, complete lighting retrofits, and mechanical and building automation energy conservation measures.
Focusing on the school’s objective to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040, Southland Energy will enhance the overall energy efficiency of the campus to help meet their goal of 40 percent energy reduction by 2025. In addition to saving energy and operating costs, this comprehensive program will also improve comfort for students and teachers and is expected to pay for itself in approximately 11 years.
